Detroit Transit Options for Growth Study
Project Sponsor
Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT)
Description
This study will identify and evaluate rapid transit options to improve access and mobility in the Detroit area. The study is one step in the formal process established by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for metropolitan areas seeking federal grants to plan, design, and build rapid transit systems. The study will conduct an Alternatives Analysis to identify the transit mode, general alignment, and realistic financial plan where costs are consistent with the expected benefits.
Status
Light rail service from Downtown Detroit to the Michigan State Fairgrounds has been selected as the locally preferred alternative. The project is currently being proposed for amendment to the 2030 long-range Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) in June 2008. DTOGS will host a press conference and open house (PDF, 399 KB) on April 21 formally announcing the locally preferred alternative.
