Intersections and Roads

Federal-Aid Road Network

This database contains information on the intersections and road segments that form the federal-aid road network in Southeast Michigan. At the current time, data are only collected for those roads eligible for federal aid (major roads), not for local roads.

Searching the Database

Please note that selecting Southeast Michigan, any county, or the City of Detroit will require you to choose a subset of roads in the Roads drop-down list. Due to the size of these areas, it is not possible to return a list of all features at one time.

Intersections

  • physical reference information such as PR and mile point important for transportation planning;
  • type of traffic control (stop or yield sign, traffic light, or no control as the intersection is actually an overpass or underpass);
  • number of recent traffic crashes within 150 feet of the intersection;
  • links to complete traffic crash information for that intersection in past years; and
  • photos taken at the different approaches to the intersection, where available.

Road Segments

  • physical reference information such as PR and mile point important for transportation planning;
  • functional classification of the road segment;
  • direction of traffic allowed (one-way or two-way);
  • recent asset management information (i.e., number of through lanes, pavement condition, pavement type);
  • posted speed;
  • number of recent traffic crashes;
  • most recent traffic volume (average annual daily traffic); and
  • short-range (TIP) or long-range (RTP) improvement projects planned for the road segment.

Transportation Data Map

Much of this information can be visualized on SEMCOG's map of Transportation Data in Southeast Michigan. There you can zoom into an area and view road segments, intersections (including all local intersections not available in this query tool), and improvement projects on the map, with links to the same data reports found here.
