Intelligent Transportation Systems
ITS imageITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) involves the use of computer and electronic technologies, communications, or information processing to improve the safety and efficiency of our transportation system. The use of ITS in Southeast Michigan is not new. Examples currently in use include:
 

  • dynamic message signs,
  • closed circuit TV cameras,
  • roadway sensors,
  • coordinated signal systems,
  • SEMSIM, Southeast Michigan Snow and Ice Management, which employs an AVL Automatic Vehicle Location) system that will allow the four partners to fight a snowstorm in a cooperative effort, and
  • Michigan ITS Center
