SEMCOG University on context sensitive solutions will be held on October 27 SEMCOG and the Michigan Department of Transportation are teaming up to educate local government representatives, road and transit agencies, community and economic development officials, and consultants about context sensitive solutions — designing transportation projects that are sensitive to the community's values. SEMCOG University presents Context Sensitive Solutions: A Regional Approach for Transportation Projects on Friday, October 27, 2006, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) in SEMCOG's Buhl Building office in downtown Detroit. The workshop will expand our knowledge of Context Sensitive Solution (CSS) principles and describe how these principles are used in Michigan. The workshop is the second in a series of workshops on this topic (the first was held in January 2006). It will also discuss how other planning agencies across the country are using CCS principles as a way of bringing together community values, safety, and design principles to create a project that is sensitive to community values while simultaneously advancing safety and mobility in the built and natural environments. This SEMCOG University workshop is free-of-charge to SEMCOG members and partners; there is a $75 charge for nonmember local governments. Seating is limited, so you are encouraged to reserve a spot by Friday, October 20, 2006. Contact: Sally Walt, SEMCOG Transportation Administrative Assistant, to RSVP. You can register online at www.semcog.org; the link to the workshop is under Planning Issues on the home page.
