General Assembly meets on October 27 The General Assembly (GA) of SEMCOG will meet on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at the MSU Management Education Center (811 West Square Lake Road, Troy) beginning at 4:30 p.m. The GA will be requested to adopt the amendment of four projects to the 2030 Regional Transportation Plan for Southeast Michigan. Larry Alexander, President and CEO of the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau, will speak about the numerous activities and events taking place in Southeast Michigan, including the Super Bowl, that are improving the quality of life in the region. Gretchen Driskell, Mayor of Saline and Chair of SEMCOG's Transportation Advisory Council, will discuss the recently passed transportation bill, known as SAFETEA-LU, which includes $100 million for a rapid transit project between Ann Arbor and Detroit, with service to Metro Airport. Other items on the agenda include the recent series of public service announcements produced by Comcast Cable and SEMCOG promoting the Seven Simple Steps to Clean Water (copies will be available for SEMCOG members for use on community cable) and the debut of SEMCOG's updated Citizens' Guide to Transportation Planning in Southeast Michigan. October is fertilizer month Fertilize sparingly and caringly was the first tip of the "Our Water. Our Future, Ours to Protect. — Seven Simple Steps to Clean Water" campaign that began in April 2004. Fertilizer application is again the topic of the month in October 2005. Fertilizing during the early fall season can help strengthen your lawn's roots for an early spring green. Applying fertilizer in the cooler temperatures and rain of early fall provides your lawn with the nutrients it needs to recover from the hot summer months. To support local efforts, materials are available for ordering and can be found at www.semcog.org. Contact: SEMCOG Information Services.
