SEMCOG announces membership dues reduction SEMCOG's Finance and Budget Committee has recommended Executive Committee approval and General Assembly adoption of a membership dues freeze and reduction for FY 2007-2008. Counties, who pay the majority of SEMCOG membership dues, will see, on average, a 10 percent dues reduction. Membership dues for local governments will be reduced an average of four percent. The fiscal challenges facing counties and local governments and the impact that may have on SEMCOG membership is prompting this action. The last membership dues reduction occurred in 2004. The proposed budget for FY 2007-2008 is $12.2 million, a zero percent increase over the current budget. Contact: Kathleen Lomako, SEMCOG Deputy Executive Director.
TIP amendments announced The public is invited to comment on projects being considered for amendment to the FY 2006-2008 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP implements projects from the long-range plan using federal transportation funding. As amended, the TIP estimates $2.8 billion in expenditures. The amendment adds projects to the TIP that will be funded through the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) program, which funds projects that reduce congestion and address air-quality problems. Approximately $35.2 million in CMAQ funds are available; and will be used on as traffic-signal upgrades, left-turn lanes, public outreach activities (Ozone Action, RideShare), projects that improve the commute to work for those using nonmotorized means, and a wide variety of transit improvements. Projects in a TIP amendment are subject to an air quality conformity analysis, an environmental justice review, and a public comment process (details are available from SEMCOG). A complete list of all projects, including amendment, is available from SEMCOG Information Services or on www.semcog.org. Comments on projects should be mailed, phoned, or faxed to SEMCOG Information Services; contact information is available in the box on the back. Address e-mail comments to infoservices@semcog.org.
