Executive Committee meets September 28 SEMCOG's Executive Committee will meet on Friday, September 28, 2007, in SEMCOG's downtown Detroit office. Action items to be considered by the committee are as follows:
Kim Schatzel, Director of the Center for Innovation Research at the UM-Dearborn School of Management, will discuss the Entrepreneurial Cities Index study, an annual research study that examines the factors that influence entrepreneurship, economic development, and job growth. SEMCOG University presents Integrating environmental issues in transportation planning on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, from 9 a.m.-noon (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) in SEMCOG’s Buhl Building office in downtown Detroit. By its very nature, transportation infrastructure (roads, bridges, nonmotorized pathways, transit routes, and facilities) impacts the physical landscape. It is important to consider this interaction when planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining the transportation system. Come join us to learn how to plan, design, and implement transportation projects that are sensitive to the environment, both natural and built. This SEMCOG University workshop is free-of-charge for members. Seating is limited. You are encouraged to reserve a spot by Tuesday, October 2, 2007. Contact: Sally Walt, SEMCOG Transportation Administrative Assistant. You can also register online on SEMCOG's meeting calendar.
Public comment sought on amendment SEMCOG's long-range transportation plan SEMCOG announces the public comment period for the proposed amendment of coordinated human services transportation plans to the region's long-range transportation plan. Federal transit funding for programs serving elderly individuals, individuals with disabilities, and low-wage workers needs to be better coordinated among transit providers and human services agencies in order to increase service. Individual plans have been submitted by various agencies representing large urbanized areas, small urban areas, and rural areas in the region, and are available online at www.semcog.org/TranPlan/RTP. Comments should be mailed, phoned, or faxed to SEMCOG Information Center (see address information in the box below). Address e-mail comments to infocenter@semcog.org. Comments can also be made in person at the following meetings:

This municipal training will address the many issues of cleaning municipal streets and parking lots, including catch/basin maintenance, salt storage and application techniques, managing roadside vegetation, paved and gravel road maintenance, snow storage and disposal techniques, and bridge maintenance. There is no cost for this workshop, but registration is required. Contact: Ken Bishop, Administrative Assistant, Environmental Programs, to RSVP. You can also register online at www.semcog.org. Find the link to the workshop under Planning Issues on the home page.
