Water Week 2013

SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, and the Southeast Michigan Partners for Clean Water will hold the eighth annual Water Week from June 1-9, 2013 to celebrate, learn about, and enhance Southeast Michigan's abundant water resources through recreation, education, and stewardship activities. The governor has signed a proclamation, extending Water Week to a statewide celebration.

Friends of the Rouge
Rouge Rescue - June 1
Each June, Friends of the Rouge, in partnership with Rouge communities, brings volunteers together from across the watershed to work toward the common goal of improving the Rouge River for generations to come.  This annual river clean up event, known as Rouge Rescue, began in 1986 with volunteers removing large quantities of trash from the river.
  


Canton Department of Public Works
Annual River Day - June 1
River Day will be hosted at the Lower Rouge Trailhead of the newly-restored I-275 Metro Trail. Activities include learning about the environment; especially healthy rivers, trail clean-up, removing invasive species, a demonstration by Leslie Science Center, a nature scavenger hunt, trail hikes, an inflatable bouncer and birdhouse building.


Clinton River Watershed Council
River Day - June 8
Every year in early June, individuals, businesses, community groups, and local governments across the watershed join forces on River Day to enhance and celebrate the Clinton River and Lake St. Clair. Activities range from nature hikes, canoe trips, fishing derbies, and fly fishing lessons to storm drain stenciling, river clean-ups, habitat restoration, and native landscaping
.


Macomb County
Anthony V. Marrocco Clinton River Canoe Classic - June 2
This is a sanctioned professional canoe race on the Clinton River with a purse totaling over $10,000.  A recreational kayak race will also be held. Contact Lynne Seymore at (586) 307-8229 for more information.

River Day Clean Up on the North Branch of the Clinton River - June 8

Sierra Club
Green Water Infrastructure Bike Tour of Detroit - June 9
Green water infrastructure is one solution to help stop stormwater and sewage pollution that negatively impacts the Detroit and Rouge Rivers. On this moderately paced 12-mile guided tour, you will bike along the Detroit Riverfront, Midtown, and Detroit’s east side to see examples of constructed wetlands that absorb stormwater from surrounding streets, rain gardens, native grasses, and much more.

River Day - June 8
St. Clair County’s River Day 2013 is June 8 and features fishing, water cleaning, canoeing, and kayaking.
