Planner
SEMCOG seeks an individual with a Bachelor’s degree in computer programming, urban or regional planning, geography, GIS (geographic information systems), or related field. The candidate must have experience using ArcGIS software, database management, and programming, as well as a knowledge of basic GIS concepts.

Principle responsibilities for this position include:
Develop, streamline, and maintain data for socioeconomic analysis, urban modeling, and forecasting.
Assist in building creative mapping applications/data visualizations and providing data on our web site.
Work on special projects as needed.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate must also have good organization and time management skills, and be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with internal staff. Effective written and verbal skills are required, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Planner
SEMCOG seeks a regional/urban planner, landscape architect, or other degreed candidate with the skill and abilities to provide assistance in the field of parks, recreation, pedestrian and bicycle travel, and other environmental and transportation issues. As a member of the Plan Implementation Group, the selected candidate will assist with implementing regional plans including the Green Infrastructure Vision for Southeast Michigan, Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan for Southeast Michigan, and the Long-Range Transportation Plan.

Assignments will include implementing regional plans through facilitation of region-wide parks coordination, assistance to member communities and partners in parks related activities, integration of parks, pedestrian and bicycle issues, and community and economic development. Other assignments include coordinating with member governments and planning partners, administering meetings, and creating presentation materials.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact and with a range of external stakeholders such as federal, state, county, and local agencies. The candidate must have good organization and time management skills, and be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with internal staff. Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills required including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Technical skills, including GIS (geographic information systems) and data visualization experience, are desired. SEMCOG seeks a regional/urban planner, civil engineer, or other degreed candidate with the skills and abilities to provide assistance in the field of transportation and support related work, such as community and economic development. As a member of the Plan and Policy Development Group, the selected candidate will assist with developing the regional transportation plan as well as performing data collection and analysis, preparing customized GIS maps and plots, conducting research, coordinating with member governments and planning partners, administering meetings, and creating presentation materials. 

Assignments may include one or more specialized areas of regional transportation systems involving research, planning, technology, traffic operations, freight, and asset management (pavement, bridge, etc.). This may also include economic development work, particularly as it relates to the tie between transportation and the economy. The successful candidate will have strong quantitative skills needed for technical analysis and experience working with data. GIS (geographic information systems) experience is desired. A college degree in planning, engineering, or related field is required.

Part-time Database Developer

SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, currently has a part-time opening for a database developer. Candidate must be able to work in an open, team environment, have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, and be able to adapt to and quickly learn new systems.

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Design and development experience in RDBMS (Relational database management systems); 
  • Experience creating views, indexes, roles sequences, procedures, etc.; 
  • Working knowledge of MS SQL Server and SQL Server Management Studio; 
  • Experience writing SQL (Structured Query Language) queries; 
  • Experience working in a Windows Server 2008 or newer environment 

The candidate may also possess the following desirable skills: 

  • Familiarity with MS Access including report and form creation, and macro creation; 
  • Experience using SQL Reporting Services to create custom forms and reports; 
  • Experience creating and managing users using Windows Active Directory; 
  • Experience using Visual Studio and C# to write web-based queries of databases 

 Principal responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Support databases in a Microsoft SQL Server environment on Windows Operating Systems; 
  • Install and support of users of database client software; 
  • Develop complex database queries; 
  • Create and maintain database objects; 
  • Write documentation and communicate database design 

 

Twenty-five to twenty-eight hours per week.
