Project Summary
When Clarkston officially became a city in the 1990's, they worked closely with Independence Township. The township still provides many services to Clarkston, including access to parks and recreation activities. Clarkston does not have its own parks and recreation department. Citizens of Clarkston are permitted to use the Parks and Recreation amenities of Independence Twp. for an additional cost. Clarkston benefits greatly from this arrangement, because the city has not had to provide the service, nor do they have to pay into the Township's service. The cost burden is minor to the citizens and is placed on them rather than the government.
