Protect water quality in Southeast Michigan:
Clean up after your pet

 |
Protect
our water. Do your part
Scoop the poop! Scooping your pooch’s poop isn’t just a
courtesy for those walking behind you…there's another important
reason. Pet waste contains harmful bacteria, which if left on the ground
can be transported (untreated) into the storm drains and then into our
lakes and streams. |
Dispose
of pet waste promptly and properly
In your yard or on a walk, promptly dispose of pet
waste in the garbage or down the toilet where it will be properly
treated.
Spread
the word
Tell your citizens how they can help protect our lakes
and streams. If you haven’t already, consider installing signs,
bag dispensers, and trashcans in convenient public places to remind
visitors to clean up after their pets.

Additional
ideas
Spread the word to condo associations, veterinary
offices, humane societies, pet stores (look for our tip cards in area
Petco stores), and neighborhood associations. Ask for a commitment
by signing “scoop the poop” pledges – reward with
a prize drawing or by posting a picture of the owner’s dog online.
