SEMCOG General Assembly elects 2007-2008 officers;
Walled Lake Mayor William Roberts is new Chair

The 2007-2008 leadership of SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, was elected at SEMCOG's Annual Meeting held on June 21, 2007. The General Assembly elected a slate of candidates that includes one new officer Green Oak Township Clerk Michael Sedlak.

Ira Township Supervisor, John Jones, outgoing chair, officially passed the gavel to incoming chair, William T. Roberts, Mayor of Walled Lake.

SEMCOG's complete slate of officers for 2007-2008 is:

  • William T. Roberts, Chairperson; Mayor, Walled Lake
  • Mary Blackmon, First Vice Chairperson; Trustee, Wayne County Regional Education Service Agency (will become Chairperson in 2008-2009)
  • Robert Cannon, Vice Chairperson; Clinton Township
  • Philip Cavanagh, Vice Chairperson; Commissioner, Wayne County
  • Robert Hison, Vice Chairperson; Mayor, St. Clair Shores
  • Michael Sedlak, Vice Chairperson; Clerk, Green Oak Township
  • John Jones, Immediate Past Chair; Supervisor, Ira Township

Currently the longest-serving municipal official in Oakland County, Bill Roberts has been involved in Walled Lake politics since 1968, including six (non-consecutive) terms as mayor. He has worked for numerous improvements over the years, including installation of citywide municipal water and sewer systems, paving of all city streets, and supporting creation of the Downtown Development Authority. Roberts has also compiled a distinguished service record at SEMCOG, serving on numerous committees and advisory councils.

"It's a great privilege to lead this organization today," Roberts said. "Today, SEMCOG is widely recognized and viewed as the regional leader ready and willing to address our toughest issues."
