SEMCOG UniversityAccess Management: Improving traffic flow through coordinated community planning Friday, October 30, 2009 Access management is a set of traffic engineering and site-plan techniques applied through community planning and zoning. These techniques (used along key corridors or throughout a community) are designed to minimize potential conflict points along roadways, maximize safety, and reduce travel delay associated with congestion. Successfully managing access preserves the life expectancy and function of roads and supports other community objectives, such as more walkable streets and improved aesthetics. At this workshop, attendees learned about best practices for reducing traffic congestion, improving traffic safety, and enhancing community livability through access management.
