Previously called Shop Local, SEMCOG’s Experience Southeast Michigan video series provides a glimpse of the countless shopping, dining, cultural, entertainment, and recreational experiences available to Southeast Michigan’s residents and visitors. In partnership with SEMCOG member communities, we produce these videos to help promote parks, trails, businesses, and experiences that make the Southeast Michigan lifestyle what it is. Just contact us and we’ll discuss how to get started!
Experience Southeast Michigan supports the circulation of dollars within our communities and Southeast Michigan’s Economic Development Strategy. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), about half of Michigan’s 2.8 million employees work for small businesses. Each small business helps to create diversity and options within the community, and altogether they comprise over 98 percent of Michigan’s businesses. In addition to shopping for that special something, you can seek out a new dining, cultural, recreational, or entertainment experience. Experience Southeast Michigan promotes our region’s vibrant places and high-quality experiences.

Complimentary with SEMCOG Membership, Implements Economic Development Strategy for Southeast Michigan
To ensure a successful video, it is critical to plan everything in advance and make sure all parties agree to participate.
How it works:
- Contact SEMCOG Videographer Jon Clark to let us know you are interested and confirm potential dates for filming.
- A community official will coordinate with local businesses, parks departments and other partners to arrange a date when all the featured locations can film.
- A community official will ensure that “actors” representing the community are available to appear in the video, and also ensure that business employees are comfortable with being on-camera.
- SEMCOG will film and produce a final Experience – [Your Community] video that will be provided to your community.
- To ensure success, your community will upload the original video file to its website/social media channels and promote to residents and businesses wherever possible (let us know if you have questions about this!). This video will belong to your community, and its impact will depend on the community’s efforts to distribute.
