The Regional Transit Authority will hold a press conference and kickoff rally at Detroit’s Campus Martius Park on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The purpose of the event is to invite Southeast Michigan residents to help create a system of regional transit that will take them to the places they want and need to go.
RTA CEO Michael Ford, RTA Board Chair Paul C. Hillegonds, and other special guests will address the crowd beginning at noon. The event will highlight the many ways that Southeast Michigan residents can participate in creating a Regional Master Transit Plan.
The RTA is charged with completing a Regional Master Transit Plan and three corridor studies over the next eight to 12 months. Once completed, the studies will serve as a guide for developing a multi-modal transit system in Wayne, Washtenaw, Macomb, and Oakland counties and provide the region with the necessary details to pursue a ballot initiative in November 2016.
In the week following the kickoff, the RTA will host a series of day-long public meetings in each of the four counties designed to get everyone in Southeast Michigan thinking about a sustainable transit vision for the region. Current information for county events is as follows:
