Switch MI Trip

October 28 has been designated Switch MI Trip Day. This is a promotion to try to get people to switch from driving alone to sharing the ride to work for one day – this Wednesday, October 28.

The idea is that taking a different mode of transportation such as carpooling or vanpooling, using public transportation, walking, or biking will introduce you to a new way of travel – one that you may occasionally find fits in with your schedule and provides you with some benefits as well.

For example:

• Leaving your car at home one day a week saves gas and decreases your exposure to flat tires and fender benders while also helping out the environment by decreasing your carbon footprint.
• Your stress levels may decrease by having someone else drive while you relax or get some work done.
• Finding new ways to commute now could come in handy in bad weather that we know is coming.

If those reasons are not enough to have you consider this for just one day, there’s an additional incentive – prizes! Participants will be eligible for great prizes like an iPad and gift cards. The first 300 people to log their October 28th commute will receive a free Tim Hortons coffee. Everyone can be a winner!

So how do you sign up? Well, if you currently drive alone, follow these easy steps:

• On October 28, share the drive in a carpool or give your drive up completely by taking the bus, riding in a vanpool, working at home, walking, or biking.
• Let us know how you got to work no later than 6 p.m. on October 29, 2015. Additional information will be provided on October 28.

If you currently share a ride on a regular basis, you can also participate by:

• Telling your friends about Switch MI Trip on Twitter using #SwitchMITrip.
• Make sure your participating friends give you credit for the referral to make you eligible for prizes.
