As Earth Day approaches, it’s a great time to consider what steps each of us can take to contribute to a healthier environment in Southeast Michigan. One thing you can consider is reducing your carbon footprint by choosing an eco-friendly commute. Southeast Michigan Commuter Connect makes it easy for you to find a better way to work. Use this trip planning and commuter matching tool and search for all available transportation options.

If taking an alternative commute is new to you, Commuter Connect can also find a transit, walking, or biking buddy to make the transition easier and more fun.

I regularly carpool to work and log my trips into Commuter Connect, which allows me to see how much of an environmental and financial impact I am making. I see that I’ve reduced CO2 by over 100 pounds and saved over $30 just in April!

It’s really satisfying to see the impact I’m making by sharing the ride.

As the weather warms up, get outside and bike or walk to work. With the Commuter Connect Commute Calendar you’ll be able to see how many calories you are burning all while getting some quality time outside.

In May, participate in the Commuter Challenge. You’ll have a chance to win great prizes like an iPad, $100 Visa gift card, and more when you carpool, vanpool, bike, walk, take transit or work from home. To participate, sign up with Southeast Michigan Commuter Connect.

On Friday, May 4, Southeast Michigan will compete against Lansing and Grand Rapids for the most commuter participation on Clean Commute Day. Commuters who sign up will be eligible for great prizes.

Friday, May 18 is Bike to Work Day. Organized rides will be coming from the north, east and west and will meet at Spirit Plaza, downtown Detroit.
