In Southeast Michigan, we live in the heart of the world’s greatest freshwater resource. Our region has long prided itself on the quality of our water and effective water service delivery to residents. While we have been blessed with an invaluable resource that gives us a real advantage compared to other regions, we must not take it for granted.

Our ability to successfully maintain and enhance our water resources will determine our future. At a time of limited funding and competing priorities, difficult decisions need to be made on how to invest in our infrastructure. This is why we want to hear from you.

water infrastructure

With a task force of over 60 representatives, SEMCOG is working to update the Water Resources Plan for Southeast Michigan. One component of the plan is infrastructure, which we rely on for drinking water, sanitary sewers, and stormwater.

Critical in many ways, infrastructure:

  • Protects public health. It provides clean, safe drinking water that is sourced from our rivers and lakes.
  • Provides a healthy environment. Infrastructure that is maintained and upgraded leads to a healthier environment.
  • Links to quality of life. A healthy environment supplies a variety of recreation opportunities in Southeast Michigan.
  • Supports economic development. Providing quality and safe infrastructure leads to economic prosperity.
