Kathleen is SEMCOG’s Executive Director. She has decades of experience in both planning and administration. She has a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in Urban Planning from Wayne State University.

In addition to being Executive Director of SEMCOG, Kathleen Lomako serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Michigan Infrastructure Council, a 27-member advisory body charged with initiating the planning, development, and management of Michigan’s infrastructure systems.

This week, the Michigan Infrastructure Council (MIC) released its 180-Day Report. While the MIC is early in its project timeline to create a 30-year framework to guide infrastructure investment, much progress has already been made.

MIC report

The MIC has created its vision – Define a vision for Michigan’s infrastructure that provides the foundations for public and environmental health, economic prosperity, and quality of life – and organized its work around five key goals:

  • Invest
  • Educate
  • Coordinate
  • Prioritize
  • Collaborate

For years, SEMCOG and MAC have been champions for increased infrastructure investment. We played a lead role in the Michigan Infrastructure Asset Management Pilot, which demonstrated the value of strong data and coordination. As such, we understand the true need for a long-term framework that will address all of our vital infrastructure systems and look forward to the continued progress of the MIC.
