This is my last blog, as I am retiring from SEMCOG soon. During my 42 years here, I have had the opportunity to work on a broad range of evolving issues that protect our natural environment, provide infrastructure upon which our communities and residents rely, address transportation and mobility needs, improve education and the economy, and assist in making local governments more effective…all on a foundation of sound data.

It’s been rewarding.

I am thankful to the many individuals I’ve worked with through SEMCOG, including local elected officials who participate in SEMCOG for the benefit of their organizations and the region as a whole; our state and federal officials who help us implement our plans through funding and policy actions; and the staff of SEMCOG members and partners who have shared their knowledge and expertise with us as we seek to improve Southeast Michigan.

It’s been an honor.

I am pleased to have grown SEMCOG’s membership and influence by building on the strong foundation of past Executive Directors, with the support of the many officers I have had the pleasure of working with, and with the help of the very talented staff at SEMCOG.

It’s been fulfilling.

As a planner, I am optimistic by nature. I believe SEMCOG’s long-range planning is about identifying actions we can take today that will lead to a brighter future. And speaking of a brighter future, I am confident that new Executive Director Amy O’Leary and SEMCOG staff will continue the great work of SEMCOG.

Thank you to everyone who loves Southeast Michigan and is doing their part to make it a great place to live, work, and play. I am gratified to have helped move the region forward.

It’s been an incredible career!
