Transparency is a word that you hear over and over these days. Everyone wants everything to be visible for all to see. Well, this has now carried over to the construction industry as well. For those of you that want to watch construction in real time – the Road Commission for Oakland County has filled that void in your life. They have made it possible to watch the construction of the roundabout at the intersection of 14 Mile and Orchard Lake Road via a real-time work-zone camera looking down at the site.

New camera images are taken every 15 minutes. You can also view a time lapse series of all of the photos since the camera was installed on April 9. The RCOC will also produce a two-minute video at the end of the project that will allow viewers to watch the construction from the beginning to the end of the project.

The RCOC is hoping that the pictures will provide RCOC staff and the public with up-to-date information on the status of the project and help to educate people on the construction process to build the project.

With everyone wanting more transparency these days, this is an excellent idea and learning experience for all involved. I expect that we will see more and more of this in the future. So, now you have another option to watching reruns during the summer. To watch riveting real-time construction, go to the RCOC website and click on the 14 Mile/Orchard Lake roundabout workzone camera link at the bottom of the homepage.
