Geographic Information Systems
SEMCOG staff create and maintain GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data to support regional planning, modeling, and other efforts. GIS allows the user to view, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and data trends.
GIS supports a wide variety of applications throughout the region. As communities identify needs for effective planning tools, they benefit from SEMCOG partnerships to acquire data, facilitate discussions, and explore new technologies. They also take advantage of SEMCOG’s wider vision, determining where and how they fit into the regional context.
SEMCOG staff facilitates discussion among geospatial professionals by hosting quarterly meetings of the Southeast Michigan GIS User Group.
Sharing information is the future of GIS in Southeast Michigan.
Visit SEMCOG’s Open Data Portal, where you can preview and download spatial data.
