Like many of you, I spent the Christmas holiday right here in Southeast Michigan with much of my extended family. This year, our gathering was blessed with a new family member, born in early December. In addition to time with friends and family, one of the great things about the holidays is the chance to break from the daily grind. A little downtime can do a lot in terms of providing restoration and putting life and work into the proper perspective.

At SEMCOG, we are in the process of developing the 2045 Regional Transportation Plan for Southeast Michigan. At times, that horizon can seem so far into the future as to not be real. A new baby can help lend perspective and make the future more real. By the time our newest family member is 28 years old in 2045, I hope the region will become more vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable.

In short, I hope we can create a legacy of opportunity that will make it not only possible, but desirable for him to build his future in Southeast Michigan. Our plan needs to make that a reality for all who just experienced their first Christmas. Follow development of the plan on the Regional Transportation Plan page.

I hope the holiday season has been good to you, and I wish you all a Happy New Year!
