SEMCOG’s Healthy Climate Task Force recently gathered for the second time, engaging on the significant work already underway as the two-year planning process moves forward. Two years might seem like a long time to develop a plan, but there are several key phases and milestones along the way.

The Southeast Michigan Healthy Climate Plan website provides a single source for task force meeting updates, data resources, input opportunities, funding programs, and other details on the project as it evolves. We launched our website and presented at the last Task Force meeting.

SEMCOG Southeast Michigan Healthy Climate Plan website

The website features information about local climate action plans in Southeast Michigan, considerations for environmental justice, current funding opportunities, and existing programs that support everyday climate actions. There are a few important updates to note at this time:

  • SEMCOG’s Call for CPRG Implementation Grant Projects – Please share your project ideas and your application interests with SEMCOG for CPRG Implementation Grants by Friday, December 1. All project ideas are welcome, and those outside the scope of this current grant opportunity will contribute to the region’s comprehensive plan.
  • EGLE’s Public Input Session – There is an upcoming opportunity to share input with EGLE on implementation priorities for the MI Healthy Climate Plan, on Wednesday, November 29 at the Zero Net Energy Center in Detroit. SEMCOG is supporting EGLE’s efforts in Southeast Michigan in coordination with the regional planning process.
  • SEMCOG’s Focus Group Results – In October, SEMCOG engaged 214 participants in five virtual focus group sessions to discuss opportunities for Community Engagement, Transportation, Energy, Waste, and Nature. Priorities and project opportunities that emerged from those discussions are summarized here:

As we collect and coordinate project ideas with regional stakeholders, we’ll update the website with data and feedback from the in-person mapping exercise at the last Task Force meeting. Please continue to check back for more information as the project moves forward!
