Vision 2050 is the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) for Southeast Michigan. Vision 2050 was adopted in June 2024 and serves as the policy document for regional transportation investments for the next 25 years. The plan will provide a coordinated and strategic approach to transportation planning, with the goal of improving mobility, increasing safety, reducing congestion, and supporting economic growth and development throughout the region.
SEMCOG’s Vision 2050 Hub is an online resource for information on the development and implementation of our region’s transportation plan. The hub will also provide opportunities for public input and engagement, so that everyone in Southeast Michigan can help shape our future transportation system. Communities and road agencies should use these resources as part of project development and implementation efforts for Vision 2050. The hub has links to maps, GIS feature classes, plans and reports for many topic areas specific to Southeast Michigan.
Federal-Aid Committees
Federal-Aid Committees (FAC) are an essential part of developing and implementing the Regional Transportation Plan for Southeast Michigan. There is an FAC for each of SEMCOG’s seven counties as well as the City of Detroit. FACs are comprised of representatives of local units of government, transit agencies, and MDOT. FACs are charged with evaluating data and recommending projects that meet regional transportation goals while satisfying local needs. FACs meet to discuss and approve project recommendations, which are submitted to SEMCOG for inclusion in the 2045 RTP project list. Contact information for each FAC can be found on the Federal Aid Committees page.

Vision 2050 Regional Transportation Plan Amendments
The Vision 2050 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) amendment process provides structure for updating the plan to address shifting transportation needs while maintaining regional priorities. The process ensures that long-range plan modifications maintain fiscal constraint and alignment with the established transportation policies and priorities in Southeast Michigan.
Amendments may include addition or removal of regionally significant projects, modifications that impact regional transportation beyond the 2026-2029 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), and updates to the future project list. All submissions must demonstrate alignment with Vision 2050 guiding principles and overarching policies to ensure consistency with regional transportation objectives.
The 25:5 Amendment Cycle is now open. Please submit RTP project amendments using the online form. Instructions are provided on the online applications. If you have any questions using the submission form, please contact Chris Williams, RTP Coordinator.
