Adam Elghoul is a Transportation Planner that joined SEMCOG in the Spring of 2023. Much of his work focuses on leading SEMCOG’s transit needs, Carbon Reduction Program (CRP), Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program, and supporting other programs, such as the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). Adam has a Master of Public Administration from DePaul University.

The Regional Transportation Operations Coordinating Committee (RTOCC) hosted the Southeast Michigan Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Partnership Workshop on May 6. Led by MDOT’s Southeast Michigan Transportation Operations Center (SEMTOC), the RTOCC is made up of professionals that meet on a quarterly basis to support traffic incident management, roadway congestion, safety, event planning and other related needs.

The day started with Ethan Baker, Mayor, City of Troy, welcoming attendees and expressing the importance of the workshop as an example of regional collaboration needed to support our communities.

Speakers presented on a variety of topics, with time provided for questions. As the room comprised of traffic engineers, planners, first responders and others, the questions and comments provided an engaging mix of thoughts. For example, Andrea McCabe, AECOM Deputy Project Manager and The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Operation Supervisor, presented on how Blue Water Bridge manages electric vehicle fires on and around the bridge, which resulted in insight from firefighters in attendance on how their agencies handle such incidents.  

The keynote speaker, Chris Stoecklein, Canton Township Fire Chief, spoke about the Yellow Rose Campaign. This is an initiative to improve overall emotional health and wellness of firefighters and has now expanded nationally to connect with other organizations responding to similar needs.

  • Mi-TIME Update
    • Mi-TIME is a partnership between agencies working together on safely clearing traffic incidents along Michigan highways

Following the workshop, Mi-TIME training was offered to first responders on TIM standards and good practices involved in quick clearance efforts and improving responder and motorist safety.
